The shutdown dates
EA closed the last two editions of MLB Tap Sports Baseball on May 24, 2024. The earlier editions had already gone the year before. EA lists every closure on its service updates page; the dates below are taken from that list.

The 2022 and 2023 editions were listed for Apple, Google, Amazon and EA’s own webstore. EA’s page spells the 2023 edition “Tap Sport”, singular; we have kept its spelling.

What the shutdown means if you are coming back now
The games were online only. When the servers closed, the apps stopped working, and the store listings were removed. There is no offline mode to fall back to, and no official way to recover a save, transfer a roster or get purchases refunded through the game itself.
If you still have the app installed, it will open to a connection error or not open at all. Deleting it frees the space; there is nothing left to keep.
If you spent money in the game and want to ask about it, the store you bought through (Apple or Google) handles refund requests, not EA. Apple takes requests through its Report a Problem page and decides case by case, with no fixed window published. Google Play’s own refund window for apps and in-app purchases is 48 hours; after that it points you to the developer, which in this case has closed the game. Expect purchases from 2023 or earlier not to qualify.
Why it ended
EA’s shutdown notice gives the dates and not a reason. The one line of explanation on record is in EA’s statement quoted by PocketGamer.biz when the 2024 closures were announced alongside F1 Mobile Racing and a round of layoffs: “Unfortunately, the game was unable to meet our performance expectations.” EA’s general service-retirement policy says it typically retires online services once players fall below 1% of the game’s peak.
The wider pattern is familiar. Tap Sports Baseball was made by Glu Mobile, which EA bought in 2021. Licensed sports games carry an annual league licence and a yearly edition cycle, and each edition runs on its own servers. When a publisher decides not to renew, the whole line closes at once rather than one game at a time. That is a description of how these games are built, not EA’s stated reason; the performance line above is the only reason EA has given.
What to play next, by what you miss
People who played Tap Sports Baseball for years did not all play it for the same thing. Pick by what you actually miss.
You miss real MLB players and building a roster. You want a licensed baseball game with current players, cards and team building. That is a different category from anything else on this page, and only a licensed game will satisfy it.
You miss the batting. Tap Sports Baseball’s one-tap timing swing was the hook for a lot of players. Look for a baseball game with a batting loop you can play in short sessions.
You miss running a sports business between sessions. If the part you liked was checking in, collecting, upgrading and coming back tomorrow, the closest fit is not a baseball game at all. It is a sports tycoon: you own the venues and the business, and the game earns while you are away.

MLB 9 Innings 26 (Com2uS) is the licensed option: real players, real teams, card collection and team building, with batting and pitching you control. If the roster was the point, start here.
BASEBALL 9 (Playus Soft) is for the batting. It is an arcade baseball game with short games, a league ladder and fictional players, so there is nothing to renew and no licence to lose. Its listing offers manual base running, an autoplay option down to a quick result, and an offline mode.
Idle Sports Stadium Tycoon is ours, and it is the odd one out on purpose. There are no MLB teams or players and you never swing a bat. You run the venues: buy customers for a stadium, automate it so it earns while the app is closed, then expand across 20+ sports and a series of cities. Baseball is one of the venues you build. It is not a replacement for Tap Sports Baseball and does not try to be. It is the option for the players who realise the part they miss is the ownership, not the at-bat.
